Sandy is an enrolled member of Lower Sioux Mdewakanton Community, Morton, MN, and currently Executive Consultant at Gundersen Health System, in La Crosse, WI. She is an active member of the National Alaska Native American Indian Nurses Association (NANAINA) board, most recently served as Secretary of the organization. Sandy received her BSN at St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN and achieved her MA in nursing with a focus in transcultural nursing and community care, at Augsburg College, in Minneapolis, MN. Sandy is a member of the Wisconsin Center for Nursing Diversity Committee and a past editorial board member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) Nurse Leader journal. She has contributed to curriculum development for general diversity and clinical culturally sensitive education at Gundersen Health System, the La Crosse Health Science Consortium and nationally for the Center for Nursing Leadership (CNL). Sandy’s nursing career has spanned long-term care, clinic and hospital care settings as well as Human Resources. She notes that her current work brings together her clinical operational knowledge, leadership experience and transcultural nursing skills to guide workforce priorities, clinical care improvements for diverse patients and strengthens community relationships. Sandy is committed to fostering the next generation of nurses and healthcare leaders by mentoring students and colleagues as they discover their professional path in healthcare.
