Dr. Betty Smith WilliamsPresident Emerita, NCEMNA Dr. Betty Smith Williams is an educator, spanning over 50 years in teaching, research, service and administration, beginning as the first African American nurse hired as faculty in higher education in California (1956). She served as Professor, Mount Saint Mary’s College, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and California State University Long Beach; and Assistant Dean, School of Nursing, UCLA.; Dean & Professor, School of Nursing, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center; and Founding Dean, School of Nursing, American University of Health Sciences. Dr. Williams is a leader in the organization of Nurses since 1968, when she co-founded the Council of Black Nurses Los Angeles;. 1971, she was co-founder and charter member of the National Black Nurses Association, Inc. (NBNA) ; 1995 -1999 she was 7th National President NBNA. In 1998, she co-founded the National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations, Inc. (NCEMNA) . She led the five NCEMNA organization members to create, “ NCEMNA: Nurse Scientist Stimulation Program,”. $2.4 M NIH/NIGMS/ DHHS grant as principal investigator and president. A 2010, Living Legend of the American Academy of Nursing, its highest honor. She has received over 70 awards and citations including the 1998 Distinguished Alumnae Award, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing (FPB), Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) for outstanding work in nursing and health . villaruel

Tied between Harare Zimbabwe and Paris France. Zimbabwe (having the ability to extend my knowledge and expertise in a foreign country to health professionals and groups of underserved individuals was extremely rewarding.
